East Whiteland Fire Station is Under Way

The Friends of East Whiteland Fire & Ambulance Association are seeking donations to make the station a reality.

The following was provided to Patch by the FEWFA:

It began in 2007 when community residents and business leaders became aware of the need for a new home for the East Whiteland Township Volunteer Fire Association.  The existing Fire Station on Planebrook Road is outdated and deteriorating.  It was built in 1958 when the Township was less populated and the volunteers responded to about 40 calls per year vs. approximately 700 Fire Calls and 900 Ambulance calls in 2013.  It does not meet current building, fire or ADA codes and is not centrally located, which can negatively impact critical response time.

In 2008, a volunteer committee was formed (Friends of East Whiteland Fire & Ambulance Association - FEWFA) to work with the Fire Company to help develop and fund a new Fire Station.  Over the years, FEWFA has raised over $1.5 million, including pledges from corporations and local contractors for both money and resources. The groundbreaking took place in November of 2013 and, after the nasty winter, the real construction began in June 2014 with a targeted October opening.

The entire project is expected to cost $5 million.  The new 18,000 square foot Fire Station, located at the intersection of Mill Lane and Route 401 on the East Whiteland Township Campus, will be centrally located to improve response time and will be able accommodate increased fire and emergency volunteers and recruits.  The building will be LEED certified and Energy Star rated which will reduce dramatically energy costs.

It takes a village to make a project like this a reality.  Donations in any amount are appreciated and will help build the new Station brick by brick. Become a Fireman’s Friend and inscribe a Paver Block or dedicate a Brick to your family, your business or a friend.  There is an excellent video on the website that tells the whole story.

Visit www.sta5tion.org for more information and to donate online.
