Expect Traffic Delays in Borough on Saturday

Visitation for Ed Atkins, the Chester County Director of Emergency Services, who died June 9, will be held Saturday in Malvern.

Visitation for Ed Atkins, the Chester County Director of Emergency Services, who died June 9, will be held Saturday in Malvern, and Police Chief Louis Marcelli warns that there may be significant delays as a result.

Visitation will be held from noon to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mauger Givnish Funeral Home, 24 Monument Ave. Crowds are expected, Marcelli said.

"The visitation will be attended by emergency services personnel and first responders, most will probably be operating their appropriate apparatus: ambulances, medic units and police vehicles," Marcelli said. "We also expect local and state dignitaries from throughout the region, as well as military personnel to attend."

The visitation was organized by Marcelli, the Chester County Department of Emergency Services and the Chester County Fire Police Association.

Traffic will be diverted away from the intersection of King Street and Warren Avenue, but people passing through the borough Saturday should be prepared for delays, Marcelli said.

Atkins served as the county's director of emergency services for 17 years. Find Atkins' obituary here.
