Firefighters Respond to 'Close Call' at Steakhouse

The restaurant was evacuated when smoke was seen inside.

A quick response from local fire companies helped avert serious damage at Outback Steakhouse on Wednesday, June 5.

According to the Malvern Fire Company website, Malvern and Goshen fire companies were dispatched to assist East Whiteland Fire Company around 7 p.m., with a report of smoke inside the building. The restaurant, located on Route 30 near Route 202, was evacuated as firefighters searched for the source of the smoke.

The smoke turned out to be emanating from a mulch fire outside the building that had begun to spread to the restaurant, according to the fire company incident log:

Fortunately, the fire extension was minimal and only [involved] some wood members of the exterior wall and some insulation within the wall. 

The firefighters extinguished the fire and used fans to expel the interior smoke, and Malvern's Ladder 4 returned to the firehouse around 8 p.m., according to the fire company website.
