Inquirer: Philadelphia Man Dies in Charlestown Industrial Accident

Wayne J. Edeline Jr., 28, was killed and three others were injured.

According to a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer, 28-year-old Wayne J. Edeline Jr. died Saturday in an industrial accident in a building in Charlestown.

The building is located on Valley Hill Road. The Inquirer reports that four men from a debris removal company were in to help clean up the structure:

Edeline and his brother entered the building at about 10:30 a.m. and proceeded to the lower level to open a garage door for the other workers, according to police.

Both were exposed to fumes on the lower level believed to have originated from air-conditioning cooling units. Edeline collapsed, but his brother was able to escape, police said.

In a rescue attempt, Edeline’s brother and the two other workers entered the lower level. Edeline’s brother collapsed, according to the Inquirer, but the other two escaped and called for help.

All were taken to Paoli Memorial Hospital, where Edeline was pronounced dead. The building was later ventilated and declared safe.
