Inquirer: Teen Admits Role in Fatal Downingtown Accident

The son of an East Whiteland Police officer admitted to speeding in an accident that killed a woman.

The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that a 17-year-old driver involved in a deadly Feb. 19 accident admitted in court Wednesday to speeding before the collision.

Kyle Wilson, the son of an East Whiteland Police officer, acknowledged traveling at more than twice the speed limit in Downingtown when he lost control of his pickup truck and struck the other car, according to the Inquirer article.

The other driver, Jesika J. Kavanagh, 19, niece of Chester County Commissioner Kathie Cozzone, died in the accident. The two passengers in her BMW suffered serious injuries.

According to the Inquirer:

Wilson, who was wearing a bright turquoise shirt and striped tie, acknowleged that he was traveling north at 61 miles per hour on Glenside Avenue on Feb. 19 at 10:34 p.m. when he lost control of his Dodge pickup.

The 17-year-old veered into the southbound lane as he entered a railroad underpass and struck a BMW operated by 19-year-old Jesika Kavanagh of Downingtown, [Assistant District Attorney Renee] Merion said.

Merion said that Wilson had been pursuing another vehicle and that the speed limit on the curving, downhill roadway is 30 miles per hour.

According to earlier Inquirer reports, Wilson is a resident of West Bradford. The charges against him include homicide by vehicle and aggravated assault.
