King Road Corvette Crash Kills Malvern Man

Jorge Garcia, 23, died after veering off of King Road in East Whiteland early Friday morning.

A Malvern Borough resident died in a high-speed one-car crash Friday around 12:45 a.m. at the intersection of King Road and Route 352 in East Whiteland.

Jorge Garcia, 23, was driving a 2000 Corvette as it sped through an intersection and hit multiple trees in the yard of a nearby home. King Road does not cross Route 352 in a straight line, with the western side connecting at an angle. Garcia, who lived in East Whiteland before moving to the borough, would have been familiar with the intersection, police said.

"He was traveling down the road at a high rate of speed, westbound on King, and went straight across the intersection into that yard," East Whiteland Police Lt. Chris Yeager said.

Preliminary investigation indicates Garcia was driving at least twice the 40 mph speed limit, according to Yeager. No one else was in the car.

Homeowners Edwin and Karol Anne Roberts said they were woken up by a sound like thunder.

"Not only did you hear the sound, it actually shook the windows," Edwin Roberts said.

The most likely cause of the crash appears to be driver error, not drugs or alcohol, according to Yeager.

Darwinian evolution at work. Not pretty but its better than being eaten by a lion. This man was using a deadly device he clearly did not understand and probably hadn't quite earned in a philosophical sense of the Corvette as the pinnacle of driving skill.
Those of us with deep roots here understand the price our ancestors paid for us, the living. 400 years of sacrifice and suffering is a great price and I thank God every day for being alive to enjoy the life my forefathers allowed me to have. In other words, "easy come, easy go." RIP.

People drive way too fast on King Road. I am surprised this doesn't happen more often. The speed limit needs to be lowered on the portion from Sugartown to 352 to match the part west of 352 which is 35 mph. It then needs to be enforced.

He was going 80 mph. He obviously didn't care what the speed limit was. How is lowering it going to help? I'll never understand the knee-jerk reaction to lower a speed limit because people are speeding. When speed limits become so low that they are absurd, they are easier to ignore.

East Whiteland should spend more time enforcing the existing speed limits between the borough and 352.

it's such a tragedy, pointing fingers is easy to do when things like this happen but it won't change this situation. In my opinion we all need to step back before passing judgement, I don't know anyone that hasn't sped in their lifetime. He has an amazing wife, 2 beautiful daughters and son on the way. Keeping his family in my thoughts and prayers through such a heart wrenching time. Rip Jorge, you will be forever missed.

Well Joe Ames
Your comments appear to focus on deceased driver's name. Jorge Garcia may not be an illegal immigrant. Perhaps his family has been here for hundreds of years. If he is an illegal immigrant, as you hint, that his life was easy come/easy go, will likely be another untruth. His life was likely spent working hard doing the jobs that you and you ilk would refuse to do......only our immigrant fore fathers and fore mothers worked in this manner. Your fore fathers and fore mothers did not give you a special gift of life that only you, the chosen, deserve. After all, all life is precious. I'm sure your God would not be so filled with judgement as you feel privileged to declare. It is sad that Jorge made a gross error in judgement, but it is sadder to see a fellow Malvern resident pass judgement on his soul because "Joe Ames" has assumed that Jorge does not appear to deserve an American life because he may not have "deep roots". The passing of a human life is always tragic- the rest is immaterial.

My salute to Cynthia Sherbin. Well said. I am glad Malvern has righteous residents like you. This is a story of a young man made a fetal mistake. Nothing more.
To Joe Ames: What the heck are you talking about? What makes you think Jorge is an “illegal immigrant”? Forget about his legal status, Jorge’s family may have been ling in this land for thousands years, and this may very well be HIS land!! On the other hand, I can imagine, using your own logic, your ancestors may very well be barbaric murders and low lives. Just because they robbed the land and murdered the natives a few hundred years ago, it does not give you any right to brag about your legitimacy of occupying Malvern. Were you jealous he was richer than you? I can imagine you were saying (again using your own logic) “ Damn, how could an illegal be more successful than I am? He deserved this.” Joe Ames: Just like you forefathers, you are still a lowlife. How could Darwinism did not work on your family?

Aside from all that, how is it possible that drugs or alcohol were NOT involved. Don't they usually take a few days for the toxicology tests? If not that, then how about suicide? Something about this whole story doesn't add up.

TO those who comment. I am the wife of Jorge. Please some writing what ifs and what you think of him because you dont know him and TIM he would never kill himself. It might not add up to you because you dont have to understand or comprehend because he was nothing to you. We his family and friends understand it was an accident and drugs and alcohol were not involved. It was a mistake that we cant change. SO I am asking out to all. BE RESPECTFUL. WE ARE GRIEVING AND YOU ALL WITH YOUR RUDE AND INCONSIDERATE COMMENTS ARE HURTFUL BECAUSE HE WAS A GOOD PERSON. let him rest in peace and keep you misfortunate thoughts of him to yourself.

First, the property where the car ended up is in East Goshen Township. Secondly, while sad that the driver died, I am thankful that a fellow elementary school family were unharmed as they innocently slept within their own home. Thank goodness they have trees and a wall which helped deflect the car from hitting their home. We used to live on a main road and it is unnerving how the actions of irresponsible drivers can place your family in harm's way...

Kelly, that property is split by the border between East Whiteland and East Goshen townships. The car ended up in the East Whiteland portion.
Tim Caban January 26, 2012 at 04:48 pm
Pete, with all due respect the property is not split between East Whiteland and East Goshen. The township line runs down the middle of cottonwood dr in lockwood chase with the west side being solidly in East Goshen.
Amen to Kelly for your comments. As someone who does live on a busy road, I'm thankful that he didn't make the turn and plow into my house which is not protected by trees.
Tim Caban January 26, 2012 at 04:49 pm
Excuse me, I meant to say East side of cottonwood is East Goshen. West side of cottonwood is East Whiteland. My mistake.
Tim Caban January 26, 2012 at 04:57 pm
Finally let me correct my comment and stop embarassing myself. Looking at Zillow, the property line does cut off a corner of the property. My apologies. Since the house itself is totally in East Goshen it is West Chester school district.
Again amen to Kelly.

Thanks, Cynthia for some logical thinking. I continue to be amazed at the predjudicial comments of people in this day and age.
Lynn, how right you are! Jessica, Those who truly know you and your family have you in their thoughts and prayers. I feel badly at such a difficult time that you have to suffer the ignorance of others.
Pete Kennedy (Editor) January 26, 2012 at 10:08 pm
No worries, Tim. It's an unusual bit of geography. I appreciate you and Kelly keeping a critical eye on the site. There will inevitably be mistakes and items that require clarification—I hope those situations are exceedingly rare and are corrected quickly with readers' help.

Jessica I am terribly sorry for your loss. I hope that this is a wake up call for those who tend to push their vehicles to the max. I am so thankful that another innocent person/family was not traveling down 352 at the exact moment the corvette came crashing through the intersection. May Jorge rest in peace and protect and watch over his family from the Heavens. God Bless.
