Repeat DUI Offender Sentenced in Death of Chesco Man

Robert Elwood Landis had been arrested on DUI charges more than a dozen times since 1981.

A man who has seven previous DUIs was sentenced Wednesday for the 2013 drunken-driving death of a Tredyffrin Township man.

Robert Elwood Landis, 50, of Westtown Township pleaded guilty last month to homicide by vehicle, reckless endangerment and a number of other driving and alcohol charges related to the April 26, 2013, death of Liam Crowley, NBC said. He was sentenced Wednesday to eight to 17 years in prison.

Landis was driving with a suspended license and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.28 when he struck the motorcycle driven by Crowley, 24, NBC said. The accident occurred on Route 202 in Westtown Township.

Landis had been arrested on DUI charges more than a dozen times since 1981, NBC said. He had pleaded guilty five times and twice had entered treatment programs.
