There's a Hazmat Situation in Ardmore, Not Malvern

Routine work is being done in a vacant field off Route 30 near Route 401, but a more serious situation is unfolding in Ardmore.

A reader emailed:

"What is going on at the open field across from [the gas station] on Rt. 30? Next to the cleaners and TD Bank? It looks like a hazmat clean-up. Isn't that where the East Whiteland Fire Company Fair is held? Does the toxic contamination pose any effects to those of us that have attended the fair in these past few years?"

No need to worry. Yes, the East Whiteland Fire Company has held festivals on that property, which is owned by O'Neill Properties Group. But there's no hazmat situation there.

and fire companies both confirm there have been no reports of a hazmat incident. East Whiteland Township manager Terry Woodman concurred, adding the following:

The rig looks like a drill that pulls up core samples.  A potential buyer may have hired a geotech firm to investigate what type of fill was used and how it was compacted.

If you're looking for a possible hazmat cleanup today near a Sunoco station on Route 30, you have to go a bit farther east. :

Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore has been closed between Greenfield Avenue and Haverford College since about 2 p.m., when police said a foot-long canister fell off a truck and discharged an unknown substance.
