County Grant Money Will Pay For Powelton Streetscape Work

The more than half a million dollars will pay for new curbs and sidewalks on Powelton Avenue.

What will the $512,000 that the Chester County commissioners recently would go to pay for?

According to borough manager Sandra Kelley, it will be put toward a streetscape project on Powelton Avenue. That project will include:

  • new curbs and sidewalks
  • Victorian street lamps
  • stamped concrete pavers
  • ADA accessible handicap ramps at the intersections
  • painted crosswalks

The work will begin in spring 2012. Kelley adds:

In addition, we plan to do some traffic calming on King Street at Powelton that will include some textured stamped concrete along the curb line that will act as chokers in an attempt to slow traffic at his heavily used pedestrian intersection and crosswalk. The chokers will be “at-grade” so as not to impede traffic making turns onto Powelton or at the entrances to the shopping center.  The light standard and trash can at the crosswalk will have to be relocated.
