Dump Your Drugs, Documents and Hazardous Waste in April

A hazardous waste collection event will be held April 14, and a shredding and prescription drug take-back event is scheduled for April 28.

Spring cleaning often turns up some hard-to-dispose-of items—old medications, sensitive documents, cell phones and hazardous materials like bleach or car batteries. There are two events in April that will allow residents to responsibly toss these items.

On April 14, the Chester County Solid Waste Authority will collect hazardous items, including electronics. Here's the information from a recent East Whiteland meeting agenda:

The first Chester County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event of 2012 will be held on Saturday, April 14th between 9am and 3pm at the CAT Pickering Campus, 1580 Charlestown Road, Phoenixville, PA 19460. Electronics will be accepted at this collection event.

On April 28, state Rep. Duane Milne will partner with the East Whiteland Police Department to collect old prescription and nonprescription drugs (no needles or epi-pens), American flags and "anything with a plug." There will also a shredder for disposal of sensitive documents. The event will be held in the Penn State Great Valley Parking Lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
