Malvern Borough Council Discusses Increased Tax Revenue and Other Matters

Odds and ends from last week's council session: Council put plans in motion for a right-of-way vacation near the Paoli Battlefield grounds, discussed a monetary issue, and awarded escrow funds to Malvern Prep.

At last week's Malvern Borough Council meeting, council put plans in motion for a right-of-way vacation near the Paoli Battlefield grounds, discussed a monetary issue, and awarded escrow funds to Malvern Prep.

Borough to vacate portion of right-of-way

Council voted for the borough to formally vacate 35 feet of property on a 60-foot right-of-way near the Paoli Battlefield property, which Township Solicitor Wendy Mclean described to council as "essentially a legislative issue." She explained that the right-of-way, owned by the borough, lies on the property of Ralph and Sheron Bitsko. The borough will maintain rights to 25 feet of the right-of-way.

Council voted unanimously to set the process in motion for the vacation of the 35 feet, which means it must be advertised and voted upon before any official action can take place.

Council member Duane McCrory raised a question regarding the year's income tax, revenue from which appears to be higher in this collection year as opposed to last year.

"We're trying to understand why that is, and it could just be because we have a new collections group and they're doing a better job," McCrory said.

Escrow funds awared to Malvern Prep

Council voted to award Malvern Preparatory School their request for a $564,838.20 escrow funds release, for athletic field modifications.
