PennDOT’s contractor will start work in early 2013 to rebuild and expand Route 202 between the Route 401 and Route 30 interchanges. This work is scheduled to finish in May 2016.

In addition to widening Route 202 from four lanes to six, crews will rebuild and improve the Route 202/Route 401 Interchange; reconstruct bridges over Route 401 and Planebrook Road; replace the bridge over Chester Valley Trail; erect three miles of sound walls; build a 32-space park-and-ride lot at the intersection of Route 322 and Lloyd Avenue in Caln Township; install Intelligent Transportation System components; landscape the area; and build storm water management and mitigation sites.

The $63,381,084 contract was awarded to Allan A. Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County. The project is financed with 100 percent federal funds.

This is the second mainline contract to move to construction for PennDOT’s project to expand 6.2 miles of Route 202 to six lanes from just south of the Chesterbrook Interchange in Tredyffrin Township to the Route 30 Interchange in East Whiteland Township.

Phase one construction began in April 2011 to widen four miles of Route 202 from just south of the Chesterbrook Interchange to the Route 401 Interchange. This $105.4 million contract is scheduled to finish in mid-2014.

Route 202 carries an average of 76,000 to 71,000 vehicles a day between the Chesterbrook and Route 30 interchanges, respectively.
