Green Energy Forum in East Whiteland Drew Crowd

About 75 people attended an event hosted by state Rep. Milne and East Whiteland Township to learn about green practices for homeowners and small businesses.

State Rep. Duane Milne, East Whiteland’s Environmental Advisory Council, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Great Valley students all had one message to share last Wednesday night: It's easy being green.

Milne and the East Whiteland EAC partnered with PECO, Smart Energy Initiative, Brandywine Valley Heating and Air Conditioning, and the homeowners and students of the Malvern area to host a Green Energy Forum for homeowners and small businesses on April 18.

The event included presentations about energy efficient initatives and tips, grants and government incentives, along with science projects from three Great Valley students.

The students' science project displays included "one exploring tapping sound energy for re-use, one for a solar oven and one was a charted explanation of daily residential energy use," said Jon Buzan, chair of the East Whiteland EAC, in an email. "They were really well done and extraordinary."

We had speakers from PECO and the Mark Group talk about energy audits who told us to keep our refrigerators full (that was a new one to me).  A rep from PADEP talked about grants,  incentives from government ... there was a company who does financing for alternative energy projects, an expert on solar as well and a geothermal HVAC contractor.

Buzan said the conversation was "very energetic and well received." The audience "was very interested in the politics of renewable energy and questioned Duane Milne on what can be done to promote these resources," he said.

About 75 people attended the event, Buzan estimated.
