Hear Sirens? It Might Be Firefighter Training

Malvern Fire Company is performing exercises on buildings set for demolition.

Residents in and around Malvern Borough might have noticed firefighter activity and heard sirens Tuesday evening after 7 p.m. Not to worry— is conducting training exercises.

"We have three houses to train with that are being demolished as part of the East King Street Project," Fire Chief Neil Vaughn said in an email. "[Developer Eli] Kahn was gracious enough to provide these to us and we are using them until the end of the month."

Further exercises are planned for Thursday, Jan. 26, and Tuesday, Jan. 31. The buildings will not be set ablaze—too much red tape involved for that—but firefighters will practice running hoses, breaking through walls and searching for victims.

According to manager Sandy Kelley, Kahn recently submitted applications for demolition permits for the project. The borough codes officer will review them and likely issue the permits within three weeks.
