Willistown Town Hall to Be Raided, Torn Apart

The building is set to be demolished.

The Willistown Board of Supervisors voted Monday night to authorize the demolition of the township's municipal building on Sugartown Road.

The demolition will probably occur in late summer or early fall, according to Township Manager David Burman.

The township building is located at 688 Sugartown Road, next to the police station. The administrative offices were moved years ago to a temporary location in the Greentree Office Plaza on Lloyd Avenue.

The February issue of the township newsletter laid out an overview of the modifications to the municipal campus:

During 2013 the Township expects to complete the design and begin construction of a new, one-story police station on the site of the former Township Administration Building. At the conclusion of construction projected in 2014, the Township Administration would move into the current Police Administration Building as the police move into their new facility.

The demolition is pending final review of bids and a form of contract that is acceptable to the township solicitor, according to Burman. An exact demolition date will be announced later this summer.

Before the building is razed, though, it will be used for training exercises by Malvern Fire Company and the West Chester Regional Emergency Response Team, a S.W.A.T. team comprised of officers from multiple nearby police departments including Willistown.

There won't be any fire or live ammunition used in the exercises, but Malvern Fire Company Chief Neil Vaughn said firefighters would use the building to practice cutting up the roof, breaching walls and performing search and rescue.
