50th Homecoming King and Queen Announced as Patriots Win 14-12

A week of school spirit and community involvement concluded with a carnival, a parade and the crowning of a new queen and king—Ali Karwoski and Chris Hoops.

MALVERN—On Saturday, Great Valley High School celebrated the 50th annual crowning of it homecoming queen, with a day of festivities that started at 9 a.m. with a series of games, booths and exhibits for the hundreds of people that came out to join in the fun.

All morning, the parking lot between the high school and middle school closely resembled a flea market or carnival.

Following a morning of fun and games, and a parade with floats representing each class along with the cheerleaders and marching band that led attendees into the stadium, it all culminated in one dramatic moment.

The reading of this year’s homecoming queen’s name came at halftime of a crucial Ches-Mont League gridiron battle.

After the announcement of Megan Haines as the senior class queen, it left four candidates to ponder what being homecoming queen would mean to them, how would they react, what would they feel if they heard their name called.

And this year’s homecoming queen is... Ali Karwoski.

Karwoski, a member of the Patriots field hockey and lacrosse squads, calmly smiled and accepted her crown and bouquet of flowers.

“Oh my god, this is amazing,” said Karwoski. “I really never though in a million years I could win this, there were some great girls nominated and to get chosen by classmates means so much, this is a dream come true.”

The title of homecoming king was bestowed upon Chris Hoops.

“It is such an honor to be chosen,” said Hoops. “This is awesome. When I think of every one in our class, I fell like it is such a privilege to represent them and the school. We have a very special class and this is a day I won’t forget any time soon.”

“It’s pretty cool to be picked as the senior class queen,” said Megan Haines, who is involved with the Desmond project and runs cross-country and track. “This is such a fun week, and to be here today with the stadium packed and be chosen by my class is such an honor, what a day.”
