ChesCo School District Bans Halloween

Citing, among other reasons, concerns about the "religious connotations of Halloween," the district has dropped the holiday.

Rather than Halloween, this year Phoenixville Area School District’s elementary school students will celebrate a “fall festival,” The Pottstown Mercury is reporting.

According to the paper, at Thursday’s school board meeting, superintendent Dr. Alan Fegley explained that the district decided to ditch the holiday for a host of reasons, among them a sensitivity to the diversity of its student body and the “controversy surrounding the religious connotations of Halloween.”

Please tell me this story is a joke. How did this guy even earn a doctorate? What's next? How about we call Independence Day the "summer festival" as we don't want to offend any people of English descent. This dude needs to concentrate on the important issues regarding our educational system.....he is obviously wasting taxpayer money by dreaming up ridculous ways to get his name in the paper.

Let's see now, there are those secularists amongst us who have been, and are doing, all they can to rid us poor souls of celebrating Christmas, referring to it as "Winter festival." Now we have this misguided "educator" denying our kids of a day of fun and dress-up, referring to it as "Fall Festival." What's next, ruling out Easter celebration and calling it a "Spring Festival?" God help us! (Oh, I forgot, mentioning God here may get my post flagged as inappropriate.)

Phoenixville: A town that celebrates The Blob, but forbids Halloween. What a shame.

If I didn't read it myself I would not have believed it. Totally ridiculous and unwarranted action with unfounded intent.

Although I truly understand your anger, that kind of language is so inappropriate and will get you nowhere is attempting to plead your case. Honestly, you could get more with sugar than you do with vinegar; especially with those who make decisions.
