Eagle Scout Recognized For Service

Great Valley senior Steve Babb installed walkways at the GVCO athletic field as part of his work with Troop 76.

Steve Babb joined Frazer Troop 76 in April 2005, when he was in fifth grade at . Since then, he's earned numerous ranks and titles, including den chief and senior patrol leader, and spent summers working with Cub Scouts at camp.

Now a senior, Babb recently made Eagle Scout. His project to attain the rank was the construction of an outdoor walkway with two flights of steps leading to the Great Valley Community Organization football field.

"Steve planned, designed and built the much needed stairs/walkway from the parking lot behind our GVBL facility at 19 N Bacton Hill Rd. The purpose was to give our youth football and cheer athletes and their families easier and safer access to our GVFL practice facility behind our facility," GVCO Director Keith Walsh said in an email.

Troop 76 Scoutmaster Doug Claffey announced the new rank at the Oct. 17 GVSD school board meeting. His description of Babb's activities could have doubled as a pitch to join Scouting.

"Steve used the skills he's learned as a Scout on multiple high-adventure trips, sailing the Florida Keys at Sea Base in 2009 and backpacking for two weeks at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico this past summer," Claffey said.
