Scripps Spelling Bee—Watch Online

The Chester County Scripps Spelling Bee is back. Last year, Great Valley's Sanjana Narayanana (Great Valley Middle School) took third-place. Here are details on this year's bee from Chester County Intermediate Unit, runs the event:

Downingtown, PA – Chances are, there are 52 students from 52 Chester County schools who have been carefully examining the dictionary. These students are preparing for the 2012 Chester County Spelling Bee which will be held on Tuesday, February 7 at 9:00 a.m.. The event, which is a qualifying bee for the Scripps National Spelling Bee, will be held at the Chester County Intermediate Unit’s Educational Service Center located at 455 Boot Road in Downingtown.
The Chester County Spelling Bee, which is coordinated by the Chester County Intermediate Unit, is open to all students enrolled in a Chester County public, private, parochial or home school in grades five through eight and who have not reached their 15th birthday by August 31, 2011.
Each participating school is able to send one student to the Chester County Spelling Bee who meets the age and grade requirements. Each of the participants is a winner at his or her school’s local spelling bee and each school is permitted to determine its own qualifying structure for its entrant provided it follows the eligibility requirements.
The last student standing on stage on February 7 will be given a trip for two to Washington, D.C. to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee and Bee week. The champion will also receive: the Samuel Louis Sugarman award certificate for a $100 savings bond; Webster’s Third New International Dictionary; and a one year subscription to Encyclopedia Britannica Online.
This year, the event will be streamed live over the Internet via CCiTV at ccitv.cciu.org.
In the event of inclement weather, the snow date is set for Monday, February 13, at the same time.
