Great Valley Is One Of Newsweek's Top 500 High Schools

School ranks no. 346 on the magazine's list of best public schools in the country.

Newsweek recently compiled a list of the 500 top-performing public high schools in America, and placed number 346.

The news magazine said it revamped its methodology for compiling the list this year. Here's a rundown of Great Valley's performance in each of the salient areas:

  • graduation rate (weighted at 25 percent); GV score = 98 percent
  • college matriculation rate (weighted at 25 percent); GV score = 82 percent
  • AP tests taken per graduate (weighted at 25); GV score = 1.9
  • average SAT/ACT scores (weighted at 10 percent); GV score = 1,668
  • average AP/IB/AICE scores (weighted at 10 percent)
  • AP courses offered (5%).

The numbers for the latter two categories were not listed in the ranking. Great Valley's overall score, according to the Newsweek methodology, was 0.303.

The number 1 school in the country according to the ranking is School of Science and Engineering Magnet in Dallas, Tex. Chester County schools Downingtown West (no. 339) and Bayard Rustin (no. ) also made the list.
