Caitlin Doyle's project for an advertising design class was selected as the winning design for the 2012 West Chester Film Festival.

At the , junior Caitlin Doyle was recognized for designing the poster used to promote the West Chester Film Festival held in April.

Art teacher Sheila Startup said that last spring Kevin Fitzpatrick, who runs the GVSD TV studio and also serves as treasurer of the film festival, informed her that the festival organizers were looking for young artists to design its "Small Town, Big Film Festival" poster.

Startup turned the idea into an assignment for her advertising design class, which met in the fall. Doyle's submission was selected as the winning design.

"She has a phenomenal sense of design," Startup said. "I'm so excited to see where she's going to take it. I'm hoping she comes back next year for more courses in graphic design, because she really has a sophisticated eye and a beautiful sense of design."

The board offered suggestions for changes to the festival, which Caitlin implemented into the design. Fitzpatrick said that, when the finished product was unveiled, "there was an audible gasp in the board room."

"From the get-go, our judges saw the true talent and ability in Caitlin Doyle, and saw that her design was truly the best," Fitzpatrick said. "It embodied not only the love of film that we had, but it also embodied the borough of West Chester and illustrated it beautifully."

Doyle was presented with a framed photo signed by many of the filmmakers and actor Charles McDermott, who plays Axl Heck on "The Middle."

The West Chester Film Festival ran April 27-29, and included "Following Chase," .
