GVSD to Outline 'Action Steps' In Response to Lewis Charges

Superintendent Alan Lonoconus will explain the new measures, including those regarding student bathrooms.

At the Monday night Great Valley School Board work session, superintendent Alan Lonoconus will update parents on the district's response to the . In December 2010, Lewis was charged with indecent assault of children at a Boy Scouts camp in 2006 and 2007.

Many parents have since over what they deemed an insufficient response to the allegations, which the superintendent and school board knew about months before charges were filed.

In a Jan. 6 email sent to parents and posted on the district website, Lonoconus said he would elaborate on the results of meetings he's had with principals and administrators:

This week, we have implemented changes, specifically around the use of bathrooms. We will continue to tweak procedures to best meet the needs of our school communities. I will be prepared to share more information with you about the action steps we have taken at the School Board meeting on Monday night (January 9). That update will be available in the Board meeting broadcast, but will also be posted on the District homepage on Tuesday morning.

The school board work session will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the district administration building located at 47 Church Road.
