Malvern Prep's Wilson Headed to Rome

Senior Shawn Wilson has been selected as one of 40 American football players to participate in the Global Bowl, according to Philadelphia Tribune.

senior Shawn Wilson will head to Rome, Italy, April 14 to play football for Team Stars & Stripes against an Italian team, according to the Philadelphia Tribune. The standout running back was selected with 39 other high school players from the United States to play in the Global Bowl on April 21.

“It’s 40 seniors from all over the country,” Wilson said. “We’re going to play against the National 19 and under team for Italy. Basically, the process selection included student athletes from all over the country who were doing well on and off the field. I found out about it a month ago. I’m very excited. It’s a wonderful opportunity to represent the United States. It’s pretty amazing to be able to play football overseas. It should be a lot of fun.” [...]

When it comes to football, Wilson has a good foundation. He had a terrific senior year at Malvern Prep. He led Malvern Prep (9-2 overall, 5-0 league) to the Inter-Ac League championship. The 5-foot-10, 190-pound senior, had 117 carries for 793 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. He also led the team in scoring with 72 points.

Wilson, who lives in the East Oak Lane section of Philadelphia and has a 3.9 GPA, is headed to Dickinson College next year. Read the full article at phillytrib.com.
