Angelos Garners All-State Hoop Honors

Villa Maria's senior captain named to third team and is only girl player from county selected.

Villa Maria's Brooke Angelos has been named to the Associated Press Pennsylvania All-State Girls Basketball squad.

The 5'5" Angelos was an AAA third team selection and the only girl player from Chester County picked for all-state honors in either AAAA or AAA.

The Hurricanes senior captain averaged 12.3 points per game while leading Villa to a 22-7 record and the District 1 AAA title. During the regular season, the Hurricanes just missed winning the Athletic Association of The Catholic Academies title when a last-second shot by Mount St. Joe's defeated Villa, 47-45.

The Malvern team posted big regular season wins over Downingtown East, Cheltenham, Allentown Central Catholic and Mount St. Joe's, all eventual state tourament participants.

Villa Maria ran through the District 1 playoffs, defeating Merion Mercy, St. Basil and finally Villa Joseph Marie, 56-38, to become district champions.

In the PIAA AAA state tournament, Villa defeated Kennard-Dale High of York County, 54-39, but was eliminated by Allentown Central Catholic in the second round by a 41-28 final.

This past weekend, Angelos, along with Great Valley's Tiffany Goven, participated in the All-Star Labor Classic at LaSalle University, a game that showcases the top talent each year from the Philadelphia area.

Angelos scored one point and Govan had four as the Suburban girls team lost to the City squad, 84-82.
