Bike Race Coming June 29 to Malvern Borough

The Chesco Grand Prix will occupy a loop of roadways, including King Street.

Amateur and professional riders have the chance to compete for part of a $50,000 prize package this June in the Chesco Grand Prix, an annual Chester County cycling series. The Grand Prix, which runs from June 27 to July 8, sees races in Oxford, Malvern, Phoenixville, Downingtown, Parkesburg and Kennett Square.

Here's an overview based on an informational packet given to the Malvern Borough manager by the organizers, American Cycling Group LLC.

What is it: "A high-quality series of up to 10 criteriums in towns and villages throughout Chester County."

When will it be in Malvern: Friday, June 29, 4 - 10 p.m.

Where will it be: The race will start on East King Street (near ) and make a loop back to King Street by way of Woodland Avenue, Roberts Lane, South Warren Avenue, Monument Avenue and Powelton Avenue.

Who will be racing: Approximately 300 amateur and professional licensed racers. The professional class includes 18 groups of five riders from across the United States and several foreign countries.

What's at stake: Riders will be competing for part of the $50,000 prize package. Prizes are awarded for the best riders in each event as well as the best overall riders and teams at the end of the series.
