Photos: Bike Racers Compete In Malvern

Friday's heat failed to impede the racers.

Some streets were closed, people lined King Street, and riders braved the high temperatures to compete Friday evening in the , one stop in the Chesco Grand Prix of bicycle racing.

There were seven races in all—some were for children and others for amateur adult riders, as well as a race for professional men riders. With a lap of the course being .62 miles and the premier pro race being 65 laps, the rubber met the hot asphalt road making the race both a contest of athleticism and heat endurance.

At one point in the Pro Men’s Race, a multi-rider collision happened on King Street with as many as ten riders involved. While bikes went crashing to the ground, no one sustained a serious injury although some of the bikes were damaged. The fallen riders picked themselves up walked their bikes to the nearby "pit" where quickly reparable bikes were fixed. The riders remounted their bikes and were back in the race in a matter of minutes.
