GV Baseball and Villa Softball Earn District 1 Spots

Patriots face Boyertown while Hurricanes get Pottsgrove in first round, both on the road.

The Great Valley baseball and Villa Maria softball teams will be part of post-season play next week when the respective District 1 tournaments begin.

The Patriots diamondmen received the South 11th seed at Thursday night's District 1 meeting and will travel to Boyertown on Monday to face the Bears, who are the North 6 seed, at 4 p.m. in a first round AAAA game. A win by Great Valley would send them against South 3 seed Conestoga on Wednesday, who drew a bye in the first round.

Great Valley comes into the tournament with some momentum, winning its last four games and nine of its last 10. The Patriots have an overall record of 13-7.

Villa Maria will start district softball play on Wednesday with a trip to Pottsgrove. The Hurricanes, seeded ninth in the AAA tourney, face the eighth-seeded Falcons at 4 p.m.

Villa, 11-5 overall, lost the semi-final of the Athletic Association of Catholic Academies playoffs on Monday to St. Basil, 9-5. If the Hurricanes get past Pottsgrove, they would meet fellow AACA member and number one seed Nazareth on Friday.
