GV Indoor Track Squad Medals at States

Jess Matsinger and the distance medley runners in placed in top 10 of state coaches association championships.

Overall, it was a successful trip to State College for last weekend's Great Valley indoor track team.

The Patriots capped off a standout season by bringing home medals from the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association championships held at Penn State University.

Topping the list of winners for the Pats was the school's distance medley team of Joe Toole, Ned Willig, Thomas Brown and Billy Wolfe who finished seventh. The squad ended their indoor season with a time of  10:34.88 which fell behind winner Wissahickon, who clocked in with a finish of 10:28.2. Fellow Ches-Mont League member West Chester Henderson was third in 10:30.69.

The other big day in Nittany Lion country belonged to Jess Matsinger. Matsinger leaped her way to eighth place in the triple jump with a 35.07.50 foot finish. The event was won by Methacton's Gabby Beccattini with a 37.00.00 feet.

The Great Valley boys 4 x 200 medley team finished 23rd as Chuck Showers, Eddie Burgess, Thomas Brown and Kevin Cox were clocked at 1:34.99. Cheltenham was the leader in the race with a 1:30.32.

In the overall meet standings, the Great Valley girls team finished in 69th place while the boys squad was 65th.
