Immaculata Plans Black-Tie Premiere for 'The Mighty Macs,' Despite Another Delay In Film's Release

General release of film about Immaculata's accomplishments has been bumped, yet again, to October.

For those awaiting the long-anticipated big screen film showing the accomplishments of Immaculata College's championship women's basketball teams coached by Cathy Rush, the wait just got a little bit longer.

The film, titled "The Mighty Macs," will have a black-tie premiere on March 29 at the Franklin Institute at 6 p.m. The night will also include a celebration of 40 years of Immaculata basketball.

But while the film, which was finished in 2007, was set for general release during this month to coincide with March Madness basketball, the general release has been moved to Oct. 21 of this year to  help bring attention to the 40th anniversary of the Mighty Macs success story.

The film revolves around Rush and her teams of 1972, 1973 and 1974 that captured the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women national titles. The AIAW was the forerunner of the NCAA for women's athletics.

Rush is protrayed by actress Carla Guino, who has appeared in HBO's Entourage and in the film Sucker Punch, which opens March 25. Rush's husband, Ed, who spent countless hours drumming up support for the teams while also working as an NBA official, is played by David Boreanaz, star of Fox's crime-investigation series Bones, Malvern Prep alum and son of former WPVI weatherman Dave Roberts.

Filming took place not only at Immaculata but in West Chester, Downingtown and other areas of Chester County. The basketball scenes were filmed at West Chester University.

Tickets for the black-tie premiere are $250 per person and must be purchased by March 18 by calling  610-647-4400, ext. 3120, e-mailing blacktie@immaculata.edu or visiting the university's website.
