Malvern Prep Student Meets Tiger Woods

Mike Higgins, 16, found "Tiger's Red Ticket" and won a chance to meet the golf legend at the AT&T National tournament.

Malvern Prep sophomore Mike Higgins was disappointed that Tiger Woods didn't compete in this year's AT&T National tournament. And he knows Woods felt the same way.

In fact, the golf star told Higgins as much.

The young Kimberton resident got to meet Woods after finding a red ticket hidden on the grounds of Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, where the tournament was held. The ticket was part of a "social media contest" put on by the tournament organizers.

"My sister, Katie, and I were looking for it around the course. We found it in a little gazebo between the third and fourth holes," said Higgins, 16. "I couldn't believe it."

In addition to chatting with Woods for about five minutes, the young fan also received a signed PlayStation 3 video game system and a copy of "Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12: The Masters." In the newest version of the game, Woods told him, the player begins as Woods as a child, working all the way up through adulthood.

Higgins said Woods also asked whom he was following at AT&T National, and he replied that he was sticking with the leaders. Woods, who is recovering from injuries, did not play in the tournament this year.

"It's always a lot more interesting when he’s out there," Higgins, 16, said.

When he returns to as a sophomore in the fall, Higgins plans to try out for the golf team.
