New Basketball Coach for Malvern Prep

The new coach comes from Texas.

Malvern Prep has a new basketball coach.

The school announced the hiring of John Harmatuk in July. He will replace outgoing coach Jim Rullo, who was hired by Nuemann University.

Harmatuk, who coached in Cypress, Texas before coming to Malvern, said in a release that the school “fell right from the start.”

“All of the people I have met have been great and have asked me how they can help. There is an amazing feeling of community here.”

According to the release, Harmatuk took his former team to the regional semifinals and, in 12 years coaching at Cypress Springs High School in Texas, took his team to the playoffs eight times.

“We don’t see many resumes like John’s come across our desks, and through our conversations and meetings, we were wowed by John’s experience, his values and the way he carries himself,” Malvern Prep athletic director Kurt Ruch said in a statement. “He has had success at the highest levels of high school basketball and his references were exemplary. We are excited to start this new chapter of Malvern Prep basketball.”
