Pats Can't Catch Bears, Are Ousted From Diamond Playoffs

Boyertown hands Great Valley 4-3 setback to end season in round one of district tournament.

Great Valley's trip to the District 1 AAAA baseball playoffs lasted just one game as the Patriots traveled to Boyertown on Monday and were defeated, 4-3.

The Pats (13-8) got a run off Bears starter Steve Price in the first, thanks to a double by Kevin Falcone followed by a single from Chance Griffiths, who had a big day, going 3-for-3.

But the Bears came right back in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead with a two-RBI single from Kyle Weller. The Bears (14-7) added a single runs in the second and third to make it 4-1 .

Griffiths hit a homer in the fourth (4-2), then the Pats added a sixth inning run to get within 4-3, but couldn't get the tying run. The Patriots worked out of jams all day as Boyertown left 10 men on base, had four reach on hit batters, and hit had four doubles.

The loss broke a four-game winning streak for Great Valley.
