'Run for Freedom' Sunday On Battlefield Trails

The 5k trail run, which benefits a local wounded warrior, takes place Sunday morning at the Paoli Battlefield and Memorial Grounds.

Are you looking for a 5k that isn't on pavement, and whose proceeds go to a great cause? Lace up for the 'Run for Freedom' this weekend.

The 5k trail run will be held Sunday morning before the Memorial Parade, and its course will take runners through the woods and across the fields of the .

This race was created to show appreciation and honor those who have served to protect our freedom. Proceeds will benefit a local Navy Corpsman, Jay Raffetto, who was injured by an IED in Afghanistan in August of 2010.

"Last year the Run for Freedom raised $2500 for Corpsman Raffetto," Keri Phillips, one of the event organizers, said in an email. "We are hoping to add to that total this year and continue to support Corpsman Raffetto and his wife create a handicapped accessible home."

A quarter-mile fun run for children starts at 9:15 a.m., and the 5k trail run begins at 9:30 a.m.

Participants can register online or at the event. Race-day admission for the 5k costs $25 for adults and $15 for middle and high school students, and is free for military personnel and veterans. The fun run costs $5 per child. For more information, check out the event's Facebook page.
