'Lemonade Stand' to Honor Young Malvern Cancer Patient

'Giulianna the Brave' earned her nickname through multiple surgeries, chemotherapy and other tribulations brought on by a neuroblastoma diagnosis.

On Sunday, June 9, there will be an Alex's Lemonade Stand set up at 9 Queens Ave. to raise funds for cancer research. The event is in honor of Giulianna Troiano, a young Malvern resident fighting cancer.

The lemonade stand comes on the eve of the two-year anniversary of Giulianna's diagnosis, according to the Patch calendar event:

On June 10th, 2011, Giulianna was diagnosed with stage IV Neuroblastoma.  Through her two year ongoing battle, she has been through three surgeries, 12 rounds of chemotherapy, and endless scans, blood draws and biopsies.

While this is the first official Alex's Lemonade Stand, it won't be the first showing of community for young Giulianna.  Her neighbors have hosted other fundraisers, like a lemonade and baked goods sale in 2011, to help pay her medical bills. In addition to drinks, brownies and cookies, the fundraisers sell purple-and-white rubber bracelets that say "Giulianna the Brave."
