Photos: Kids 'Touch-A-Truck' To Raise Money For Greentree

Beeps and honks filled the air at General Wayne Elementary School Saturday, as kids climbed inside fire trucks, Mack Trucks, a street sweeper, a tow truck and other cool vehicles at the fundraiser for Greentree Park.

"We were nervous about the weather, but it's a wonderful turnout—far exceeding our expectations already," organizer Kristin Thomas said on Saturday morning.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., kids got to climb inside the vehicles, beep the horns and meet the vehicle operators, for a $5 entrance fee. The truck appearances were donated by Charlestown Paving, Wolfington Bus Company, Celebrity Limo, Mack Services Oil, Paoli and Malvern fire companies, Abel Bros. Towing and other operators. All the money raised from the event will be put toward the purchase of new playground equipment for .

This is one of several fundraisers have organized to raise money for the playground enhancements. With $13,000 already collected from previous fundraisers, organizers were hoping to rake in another $2,500 on Saturday, Thomas said.

"The community has pitched in tremendously to help us raise money for this project. It shows that this is important to the families in our area," Thomas said. "We're really hoping we can work in partnership with the township to make it a reality sooner rather than later. Our goal is for the community to have a new place to play as early as next spring."
