Butterfly Run 5K is Saturday

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. at Great Valley High School.

The 13th annual Butterfly Run, held at Great Valley High School, takes place Saturday at 9 a.m. The run benefits the Elizabeth Ciunci Scholarship Fund, in memory of a Great Valley High School graduate killed by a drunk driver on Thanksgiving in 1999. Looking for a local run this May? The Dragonfly 5K Run/Walk will be held at Malvern Prep on May 19. The event benefits Dragonfly Forest’s year-round camp program for children with autism and medical needs, and the race will be run on Malvern Prep's cross-country trail. Walk, Run to Battle Cancer at Ridley Creek State Park Sunday

A nonprofit dedicated to helping local families battling cancer with financial assistance, will host a 5K Run and 1-mile family fun walk on Dec. 4 at Ridley Creek State Park.

The Great Guys Group, a nonprofit dedicated to providing financial assistance to local families battling cancer, will host the Candy Cane Classic, a 5K Run and 1-mile family fun walk on Sunday, Dec. 4 at Ridley Creek State Park. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the run/walk start time is 10 a.m. on Sunday. Participants should meet at Pavilion 17, 351 Gradyville Road, in the park. The Great Guys Group was created after founder Paul Isenberg’s wife, Nicole, became ill with cancer. They became overwhelmed with treatments and balancing family life and Nicole suggested they host an event to reconnect with friends and donate the money to local cancer organizations. On Your Mark: Zane's Run Is Sept. 25

Runners who have a little extra energy to burn this year are in luck. Zane's Run, an annual 5K held at Sugartown Elementary now includes a 5-mile run, in addition to the 5-kilometer run and 1-mile fun run/walk. The event will be held Sunday, Sept. 25, at 9 a.m. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. The race begins in the school parking lot and winds through the surrounding neighborhood. Proceeds go to help families of children with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), an inherited disease that causes muscle weakness in infants and is often fatal.
