In front of a packed house on Tuesday night, the GVHS boys basketball team (seeded 3/32 in PIAA Class AAAA District 1 playoff bracket) defeated Central Bucks South (14 seed) 60-57 in overtime.The win guarantees the team a berth in State Playoffs. Leading scorer was Mikal Bridges, junior and Division 1 college prospect. Starters Brad Sherry, Michael Gregory, Cyree Ames and Nate Cohen all contributed points and played a solid game. Chris Geiss and Ryan Buchholz both came off the bench to contribute both offensively and defensively.

A team of teachers and administrators from the Great Valley School District took to the basketball court Saturday to raise money for local charities. The Ichabod Squad, as they called themselves, they played against the Harlem Wizards, a show basketball team who mix athleticism and humor. The teams faced off twice on Saturday, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Among the beneficiaries of the games were the Foundation at Great Valley and the Friends of East Whiteland Fire Company.

A group of Great Valley teachers and staffers will take to the hardwood this weekend to play a charity basketball game against the David Paul and the Harlem Wizards. The two games will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at 3 and 7 p.m., with ticket proceeds benefitting local charities including Great Valley PTO's, GVCO, The Foundation at Great Valley and Friends of the East Whiteland Fire Company. "Tickets have been selling at a mad pace, but we still have some left for anyone interested," said Henry McCloskey, a GVHS teacher who oversees the Desmond Project, which is organizing the games. Registrations are taken right up until the 8:30 a.m. tip-off, and last year's event drew more than 300 people. The tournament was created in 2005 in memory of an East Whiteland woman who died unexpectedly the previous year. Rose Bigelow worked as a teacher's aide in the Great Valley School District and her three children attended district schools.
