Proud parents (and students) can get the word out whenever they want, via Malvern Patch's homepage and daily email newsletter.
Your kid's finishing high school and has chosen a college, maybe even a major. It's big news in your household, obviously. And it's news here, too, at Malvern Patch, where every item in our community Announcements section is posted by Patch users with something to share. Sometimes it's a college enrollment, or an all-star team selection, or a hiring, promotion, retirement, birthday or anniversary. Pretty much anything goes, and it couldn't be simpler to post. Once you've submitted your announcement, a Patch editor will be automatically notified, at which point it can be featured on the homepage and in the next morning's daily Patch email newsletter. You may see it linked on Malvern Patch's Facebook and/or Twitter, too. If you have any …

It's back-to-school season, time for a new class of college freshmen to prepare to leave their homes.

Whether you are near or far, there are going to be major adjustments in your life and lifestyle. Being a recent college graduate, myself (any Penn Staters out there?), I've decided to compile a short list of things to think about as you make this unfamiliar transition. On Saturday, Dec. 11, a parade of students and faculty made their way across the chilly campus of Immaculata University. Their mission: Go viral. They'd turned out in response to a plea the school had issued on Facebook as it prepared to shoot a three-minute promotional music video. The video opens with the lyrics, “Power—small word, huge meaning,” and is scored by a song already used in radio advertisements that was recorded by musicians Chris Gregory and Mike Antoniotti. Immaculata is not the first to employ a "lip dub" video, in which students and faculty lip synch to music while touring the campus, as a promotional tool. Such videos have become popular and inexpensive ways to show school spirit and telegenic campuses. Camera operators …

Immaculata video & story was well done. Watching the energy in the students and faculty, their ability to walk, skip and run backwards was fun. Then telling the production story and finding out they did it in one continuous take made it even better. I'll be sharing it with friends.   more ›
